Putting Smiles on the Faces of Everyone Nintendo Touches
Nintendo’s CSR Philosophy
Our CSR goal is to put smiles on the faces of everyone Nintendo touches.
“Everyone Nintendo touches” refers to all our stakeholders. In addition to our consumers, this includes everyone working in the supply chain, Nintendo employees, our shareholders and investors, as well as the global environment.
Our initiatives to address climate change, engage in responsible procurement activities, build an engaging work environment, and other efforts to realize a sustainable society are closely related to our work toward the goal of creating smiles regardless of age, gender or past experience.
To help realize a sustainable society, we believe it is our duty to understand and meet the expectations of everyone Nintendo engages with while working to deliver smiles through our business activities. Our work toward this goal will continue.
CSR Priority Areas
We set CSR priority areas to promote activities that put smiles on the faces of everyone Nintendo touches.
Process to Set Priority Areas
Step 1: Identify CSR Issues
Taking into account international standards such as the GRI Standards and the social environment surrounding Nintendo, the CSR Coordination Team at Nintendo Co., Ltd. (Japan) identifies CSR issues together with the employees in charge of CSR at our subsidiaries outside Japan.
Step 2: Designate CSR Priority Areas
We analyze the degree of risk and opportunity and establish the priority level for the CSR issues identified in Step 1 according to two axes – both the impact on society and the impact on Nintendo. Next, we obtain feedback from outside experts to select potential CSR priority areas. The CSR Coordination Team at Nintendo Co., Ltd. (Japan) meets with the people in charge of CSR at our subsidiaries outside Japan to exchange ideas and designate CSR priority areas.
Step 3: Set CSR Priority Areas
After reaching consensus on the results of Step 2 among the members of the CSR Project Promotion Team including the CSR teams of the subsidiaries outside Japan, a report is provided to executive management to set the priority areas.
Four Priority Areas
At Nintendo, we have set four priority areas – Consumers, Supply Chain, Employees and Environment – using the process described above.

Structure for Promoting CSR Activities
Nintendo established the CSR Promotion Project Team to coordinate, support and promote CSR activities while collaborating with the entire group. To advance our CSR activities globally, we also established CSR teams at our main subsidiaries outside Japan. Information about the status of activities in each country is shared among the groups, and there is a mechanism for reporting to executive management at Nintendo Co., Ltd. when the need arises.
Global CSR Meeting
We regularly hold meetings to bring together members of the CSR Promotion Project Team. At these meetings, we report on the progress status of CSR topics and exchange ideas based on this.
Raising Internal Awareness
At Nintendo, we engage in a variety of activities to raise employee awareness in each region about the importance of CSR and ensure that everyone understands this.
At Nintendo Co., Ltd. (Japan), we hold seminars for new recruits to promote understanding of and support for CSR.
Nintendo of America’s CSR Committee plays a central role in training new employees and regularly issuing information through the company’s internal employee website.
At Nintendo of Europe, information on the CSR Committee, the CSR Subcommittees for Environmental, Diversity, Procurement and Social Contribution, and their activities is presented to all new employees in employee onboarding sessions. For the purposes of information sharing and raising awareness of CSR issues, the CSR Committee regularly provides and updates descriptions of our CSR activities on the internal company network.
The CSR Committee at Nintendo Australia aims to raise employee interest in CSR by providing opportunities to join in local community events and conducting CSR training for new recruits.
